Announcement: July 19th, 2021

Dear Exploration Science Community,

The joint 2021 NESF & ELS begins tomorrow! We are very excited to bring you a full 4-day virtual meeting in partnership with our SSERVI European partners! Here is some information and highlights for Day 1!!

  • Zoom and Gather.Town links to all the events will be active Tuesday from the NESF&ELS 2021 Watch LivePage:
  • Check for updates in the Program and Poster schedule. Some times have been updated and posters moved to different sessions per conflicts for presenters.
  • Day 1 Program Highlights include:
    • Opening Plenary Session with presentations from NASA Chief Scientist, James Green and ESA Director of Human and Robotic Exploration, David Parker
    • Plenary will continue with several current and upcoming missions and concepts from NASA and Europe
    • Featured Equity, Diversity and Inclusion talk by Donald James, Former NASA Associate Administrator for Education
    • Virtual Poster Session in Gather.Town
    • Parallel Sessions on “Polar Exploration I” and “Asteroids”
  • SSERVI and our Partners take Anti-Harassment and Intellectual Property (IP) very seriously. On the NESF&ELS2021 website you can find a link to the Anti-Harassment and IP Code of Conduct guidelines. We ask every participant to read them and comply with these and thank you for your cooperation.
  • During the poster sessions, each poster presenter will have their own virtual space in Gather.Town. Our goal is to have a minimum of three people attend every poster. To that end, we have created a poster sign up sheet at the link below. We are asking that you sign up for posters and help fill in the first three sign up spots for every poster so that each poster has visitors. We especially want to make sure our student researchers (identified with an asterisk by their name) have plenty of visitors! When you sign up, note both the poster number and room that the poster is in.
  • On Friday, July 23rd at 7am PT/3pm CET, Leaders from NASA, ESA and JAXA will share upcoming news and events. For this panel we have a special Conference i.o link for questions for the Agency Panel. You may enter questions and upvote others questions at the link below:
  • Check out the blue button on the Program page to the “Networking and Office Hours” Schedules. After a year and a half of pandemic, the Organizing Committee has set aside time for participants to meet in Gather.Town Conference rooms. We all recognize how much we’ve missed connecting with friends and colleagues at conferences. These networking sessions are organized by poster session topics as well as additional topics which include Public Engagement, Science & Art and Science Communication. We hope that you will spend some time reconnecting with colleagues and making new connections!
  • The Organizing Committee has also scheduled office hours with representatives from NASA and possibly other agencies. As of today, the list below identified dates and times for different organization office hours. These meetings are opportunities for the community to ask questions and share their thoughts with leaders. The schedule of meetings will also be posted on the NESF & ELS 2021 website and will be updated as more office hours are scheduled.
  • We encourage posting on social media, using the hashtag #nesfels2021
